Hoya balaensis is an intriguing succulent vine from Thailand's Narathiwat province. In the wild, it climbs through the moist evergreen forests. Its rarity is due to its limited natural habitat and recent introduction to cultivation. This plant has captured the hearts of collectors since it was first described in 2007.
Hoya balaensis thrives in bright, indirect light. It appreciates high humidity, making it ideal for bathrooms or humid environments. Use well-draining soil and let it dry out between waterings to prevent root rot. It's best to keep the temperature above 10°C (50°F). During its growth phase, a monthly fertilizer can help keep it healthy and vibrant.
This plant stands out with its oversized, heart-shaped leaves and clusters of star-shaped flowers. The glossy foliage and cascading vines add a lush feel to any indoor space. As it blooms around 20 months after propagation, the aromatic flowers are a special reward for patient growers. Its limited availability and specialized care needs make it a sought-after plant for rare plant collectors.
