Cycas petraea, or the Thai Rock Cycad, originates from the limestone mountains in Phu Kradueng National Park, Loei Province, Thailand. This rare species is adapted to tough, rocky habitats, showcasing its ability to thrive in harsh conditions. The limited range makes this plant a rare gem for collectors interested in unique, exotic plants.
Cycas petraea thrives in well-draining soil with filtered sunlight, making it ideal for partial shade. While it requires consistent moisture, avoid overwatering. Keep watering regular without letting the soil become bone dry. Unlike many succulents, it handles colder temperatures and can tolerate freezes and light snow. Maintain temperatures above -5°C (23°F) to keep this plant happy.
This cycad stands out for its extraordinary height, capable of growing a trunk over 15 feet tall with a distinct "water vase trunk" shape. It boasts long, flat green leaves that add an impressive touch to any garden. Its resilience in cold climates and distinct appearance make it a highly sought-after plant among collectors who appreciate rare and remarkable specimens.
