Commiphora socotrana is native to the isolated island of Socotra in the Indian Ocean. This small tree stands out in the laakam myrrh tree shrublands and loves the dry, rocky parts of its native land, especially at higher altitudes. Its limited presence in nature and specific growing conditions make it a rare gem among succulent enthusiasts.
Commiphora socotrana shares care similarities with succulents. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. This plant is highly drought-tolerant and can handle temperatures down to -5°C (23°F). Avoid overwatering, as it favors dry environments over the moisture-loving nature of typical succulents. Its slow growth means you'll need some patience, but it's worth the wait.
The allure of Commiphora socotrana lies in its greyish-brown bark and compact, evergreen form. Tiny, white star-shaped flowers and black seeds enhance its visual charm. Known as "Guggul Myrrh" due to its aromatic properties, this plant is an exclusive piece of Socotra's unique flora. Its historical uses in medicine and its rarity boost its desirability, creating a fascinating piece for any collector seeking something distinct.
