Boswellia ameero is a rare succulent tree that calls the island of Socotra, Yemen its home. This unique environment features arid, partly deciduous forests which this plant thrives in. Due to fragmented populations and a lack of new growth, Boswellia ameero is considered a rare find. Its traditional ties to frankincense production add a cultural layer, linking it to centuries-old practices in incense and medicine.
Boswellia ameero needs a touch of patience. It loves the full sun and should be kept in temperatures that stay above 10° C (50° F). During its growing season, water it using the "soak and dry" approach: water thoroughly once a week, then let the soil dry out completely. In winter, hold back on watering to about once a month. While winter might cause it to lose its leaves, they will come back in spring. Be careful with cold and overwatering, as this plant does not appreciate either.
This plant is not just any succulent—it's a drought-resistant survivor with a knack for living in tough, dry environments. Its bright to pale pink flowers, which vary by its different populations, bring ornamental beauty to any garden. With its connection to the esteemed frankincense resin, Boswellia ameero holds both cultural and aesthetic significance. Its rare presence in collections makes it a prized possession among succulent enthusiasts.
