Pachycormus discolor, better known as the Baja Elephant Tree, hails from the Baja California peninsula in Mexico. This rare succulent thrives in the dry beauty of the Baja and Vizcaino deserts. Found on rocky hillsides and ancient lava fields, it stands as a testament to nature's resilience. Our plants are 2 years old seedlings, poised to become fascinating features in your collection.
This succulent loves the sun. Give it full sunlight to keep it happy. It prefers gritty, well-draining soil to avoid soggy roots. Water it generously during the winter rains, but taper off as the leaves start to yellow. It's important to protect it from frost, keeping temperatures above 10° C (50° F). This ensures your Pachycormus discolor stays healthy and vibrant.
The Baja Elephant Tree impresses with its thick, gnarled trunk and peeling bark that catches the eye. Its trunk is complemented by a large, bulbous base and small pinnate leaves that emerge after rains. These unique traits, plus its beautiful cream to pink flowers during growth, make it a remarkable, rare find for collectors. Its specific growing needs and limited availability elevate its status as a prized piece for any succulent enthusiast.
