Euphorbia clandestina, also known as Ostrich Neck, comes from South Africa. It naturally grows in the rocky hills from Swellendam to Uniondale. These regions provide the native conditions of low shrubs and arid terrains that this plant thrives in. The ones available for purchase are 2 years old seedlings.
This cactus likes a bright, indirect light environment and soil that drains well. Overwatering is its enemy. Ensure the soil is fully dry before watering again to prevent root issues. It can handle cool temperatures but keep it above 13° C (55° F) as it can't tolerate frost. Water sparingly in winter as the plant becomes dormant.
Euphorbia clandestina stands out with its erect green stems and a unique look similar to a stack of coins. Its conical tubercles make it a popular pick for collections. The stem turns a stunning reddish or purple tone in winter. Turquoise-colored leaves add to its visual charm, making it a plant that is both a conversation starter and an intriguing addition to any home or garden.
