Origin of Aloe dichotoma

The Aloe dichotoma, also known as the Quiver Tree, calls the arid landscapes of Southern Africa home. Its roots are deep in South Africa's Northern Cape and southern Namibia. Known for its resilience in rocky desert conditions, this succulent is considered rare, even earning a spot on the IUCN Red List as a vulnerable species. Its name reflects its traditional use by indigenous people, who crafted quivers for arrows from its branches.

Quick Care Tips

Aloe dichotoma thrives with bright, direct sunlight. Give it well-draining, sandy soil and it will reward you with slow but steady growth. It's very drought-tolerant and won't appreciate too much water. In winter, when the plant is dormant, cut back on watering or stop entirely. It enjoys a sunny location but protect it from sudden intense sun to prevent scorching. Ideal temperature ranges are above 10°C (50°F).

What Makes It Special

This plant's structure is a standout—its tall, sculptural form with a smooth, branching trunk can reach heights of 3 to 9 meters. The Quiver Tree's powdered branches and vibrant yellow flowers are a seasonal treat that attract sunbirds. Its long life and unique form are perfect for drought-tolerant gardens and those who cherish collectible succulents.
