Sesamothamnus guerichii hails from the rugged terrains of southwestern Angola and northwestern Namibia. These regions are characterized by their harsh, arid climates that contribute to the plant's distinctive look. Though not widely known, its limited natural range makes it a unique find for those outside of these areas. The specimens we offer are 1-year-old seedlings ready to make their mark in your collection.
This succulent thrives in full sun to partial shade environments. It handles the heat well but needs temperatures above 10°C (50°F) to stay healthy. During the growing season, give it a good soak once a week and let the soil dry out completely before watering again. When winter rolls around and the plant rests, reduce watering to once a month. Be careful of frost as this plant isn't frost-resistant.
This succulent is a standout with its caudex and spiny branches. Its dark grey-green leaves are covered in dense hairs, giving it a woolly texture. In bloom, it showcases striking yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers that can grow up to 7 cm long. This unique appearance, combined with its historical ties to the Himba people's traditional medicine, makes Sesamothamnus guerichii a one-of-a-kind addition to any succulent enthusiast’s collection.
