Pyrenacantha malvifolia, also known as Monkey Chair, is a rare succulent native to central and eastern Africa. You’ll find it thriving in countries like Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania. It prefers the gritty hillsides of the African tropical semi-desert. This is where it gets all the sunlight, though it requires only a little water. We source these plants directly from their native habitats.
Monkey Chair thrives best under full sunlight or partial shade. It does well in temperatures above 10° C (50° F). It needs a moderate amount of water, which sets it apart from other succulents. Water thoroughly once a week during the growing season, but let the soil dry out in between. During winter, water less often, around once every 2 to 3 months, and always keep it in warm conditions.
This succulent stands out with its large swollen caudex, which can reach up to 1.5 meters in diameter. From this base, long, vine-like stems sprout, featuring lush green, round-shaped leaves. These vines can grow impressively long, adding a dramatic flair. Its rarity and unique look make it a fascinating specimen for collectors looking for something truly distinctive.
