Pachypodium succulentum is native to the diverse landscapes of South Africa. You'll find it thriving in the rocky grasslands and succulent scrub vegetation of the southern, central, eastern, and northern Cape Province, as well as the western Orange Free State. It grows at altitudes up to 1,400 meters, making it well-suited for rugged environments.
This succulent enjoys full sun to light shade and demands a well-draining soil mix to prevent any issues with root rot. Water it generously during the growing season to keep it healthy, but dial back on the watering when it enters its dormant phase. It's not a fan of frost, so keep temperatures above freezing when outside or indoors.
Pachypodium succulentum stands out with its distinct, water-storing stem, making it a captivating choice for succulent lovers. Its resilience in harsh conditions adds to its appeal, showcasing its impressive survival skills. While not rare, its specific care needs make it a less common but rewarding addition to any succulent collection.
