Pachypodium horombense finds its roots in the rugged landscape of southern Madagascar, specifically on the Horombe plateau. It thrives at elevations of 500 to 1000 meters, perched on granite outcrops. Its natural habitat is limited, which adds rarity and intrigue for plant enthusiasts looking for something a bit more exclusive.
This succulent enjoys full sun but can also do well in partial shade, especially in warmer climates. It prefers well-draining soil to avoid root rot, so let the soil dry completely between waterings. During its growth season, give it a good drink once a week. In winter, it needs less water and should be kept dry. It doesnât like the cold, so keep temperatures above 13° C (55° F) to ensure it stays happy.
One standout feature of Pachypodium horombense is its swollen, spiny stem or caudex, which makes it look like a piece of living art. During its flowering phase, it dazzles with vibrant yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers that contrast beautifully with its tough exterior. Its compact growth and unique appearance make it a prized possession among succulent collectors.
