Euphorbia phillipsioides is a rare succulent that originates from the stony limestone plains of Somalia. It thrives in sparse Acacia bushland, usually found at elevations between 1300 and 1500 meters. This unique environment, along with ecological pressures, contributes to its rarity.
This plant needs well-draining soil to mimic its natural rocky limestone habitat. It prefers full sun but can adapt to partial shade. Watering should be minimal due to its drought-resistant nature, and it's crucial to let the soil dry completely between waterings to avoid root rot. It thrives in temperatures above 13° C (55° F).
Euphorbia phillipsioides stands out with its spiny, compact clusters and branching stems. While it doesnât have the seasonal color shifts seen in some species, its rarity and specialized habitat make it a highly sought-after plant for collectors. Its resilience in harsh conditions highlights its adaptability, making it a conversation piece in any collection. Due to its endangered status, sourcing ethically propagated specimens is advised.
