Euphorbia capsaintemariensis, a rare gem among succulents, hails from the remote Cap-Sainte-Marie in southwestern Madagascar. This island hotspot is known for its rocky terrains and Thorn Forests, where the plant has adapted to withstand strong winds by growing low and creeping close to the ground. The harsh environment of its native habitat makes it a fascinating addition to any collection.
This succulent thrives in direct sunlight but requires temperatures above 13° C (55° F) to stay healthy. During the growing season, water it thoroughly about once a week, letting the soil dry out in between. As it is winter deciduous, expect it to shed leaves in cooler months. During winter, reduce watering to just once a month and maintain warmth as much as possible.
Euphorbia capsaintemariensis is distinguished by its thickened root, or caudex, and creeping branches. Its succulent leaves display shades from hunter green to nearly black, making it a striking visual treat. This hardy plant's rarity and adaptation to extreme conditions is a testament to its resilience and allure for collectors seeking something truly unique.
