Commiphora gileadensis, often known as the Balsam of Gilead or Mecca Myrrh, has deep roots in the Dhofar region of Oman and other parts of the Arabian Peninsula. This rare succulent captures attention with its historical significance and aromatic resin that's been treasured in traditional medicines and perfumes for centuries. The plants offered are 2 years old seedlings, expertly cultivated to bring a piece of this rich legacy into your home.
For optimal growth, Commiphora gileadensis prefers full sun and well-draining soil. It's essential to water the plant moderately; once a week during its growth season is ideal, while in winter, monthly watering suffices. This plant needs temperatures above 10°C (50°F) and cannot endure frost, making it perfect for warmer, sun-drenched spaces. It naturally drops leaves as a response to seasonal dormancy, so don’t worry if it temporarily bare this winter.
The striking gnarled silhouette of Commiphora gileadensis, with its peeling yellow-gray bark and small green leaflets, makes it a true collector's piece. While it grows slowly, mature plants develop thick, trunk-like structures, sometimes reaching up to 5 meters. Its white-cream flowers add seasonal charm, and its textured bark offers a unique visual appeal. With its legendary resin and sculptural form, it serves as an exotic, low-maintenance centerpiece that connects you to a cultural lineage spanning thousands of years.
