Aloe peglerae is a prized succulent from the rocky terrains of South Africa. It grows on north-facing slopes in the Magaliesberg and Witwatersrand ranges. This plant faces an endangered status due to habitat destruction and illegal collection. Named after botanist Alice Marguerite Pegler, it carries both natural and historical importance.
Aloe peglerae requires bright sunlight and excellent drainage to thrive. Use well-draining cactus or succulent soil, ideally mixed with coarse sand or pumice. Water sparingly and keep the plant dry during the winter. It’s crucial to avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. Optimal temperatures range between 18°C and 24°C (64°F and 75°F). Be mindful of pests like white scale and rust diseases.
This succulent stands out with its small, stemless rosette and icy blue-green leaves that curve elegantly inward. The leaf margins and back are adorned with spines, transitioning from whitish to reddish-brown as they age. Its striking winter flowers appear in July and August, enhancing its visual appeal. Aloe peglerae's rarity and distinctive features make it a treasure for any succulent enthusiast.
