Pachypodium baronii is a rare succulent from northern Madagascar. It thrives on calcareous rock and granite in the island's open deciduous forests. The plant's natural distribution is quite limited, contributing to its rarity. Our plants are 1-year-old seedlings, giving you a chance to cultivate it yourself.
This plant loves full sun and needs temperatures above 13°C (55°F) to thrive. Seedlings prefer a bit of light shade until they're established. It's sensitive to overwatering, so let the soil dry completely between waterings during the growing season. In winter, don't water at all and keep temps above 12°C (54°F) to protect it from cold damage.
Pachypodium baronii is highly sought after for its bottle-shaped caudex and crimson flowers with striking white centers. It has a drought-adapted trunk that stores water, making it look like a natural sculpture. Its spiny branches and bonsai-like form only get more interesting with age, which enhances its status as a collector's gem.
