Hoya erythrostemma is a rare tropical succulent climber originating from the lush lowland forests of Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia. It thrives in humid environments, often growing as an epiphyte along riverbanks. Its distinct habitat and slow growth contribute to its rarity, making it a true collector's piece. The plants we offer are 1-year-old cuttings.
This Hoya likes bright, indirect light but can manage in lower light areas, although it may become leggy. Use a well-draining, aerated soil mix that keeps roots dry and avoids rot. Overwatering is a big no-no; let the soil dry out completely before soaking it thoroughly. In winter, reduce watering and protect the plant from temperatures below 10°C (50°F). It thrives in warmth, around USDA zones 11-13. During its growth season, a diluted high-potassium feed every two weeks can boost health.
Visually stunning, Hoya erythrostemma showcases compact growth with waxy leaves and precise clusters of around 30 reflexed pink flowers with red centers. The blooms are roughly 1 cm in diameter and have a unique hairy texture. Its journey to flowering size is slow, but the eventual display is well worth the wait, enhancing any rare plant collection.
