Agave rzedowskiana finds its roots in the Sierra Madre Occidental of Mexico, specifically in the regions of Sinaloa and Jalisco. Known for its tough and rugged environment, this area contributes to the plant's rarity. It thrives in tropical deciduous and coniferous forests, often on arid, rocky slopes. This discovery was made in 2003, adding an intriguing element of botanical novelty.
While Agave rzedowskiana loves full sun, it can handle a bit of shade in extremely hot climates. Sharp drainage is key, so make sure it has a rocky or sandy soil mix to avoid root rot. Water needs are minimal; mature plants often rely on rainfall alone. Irrigate only if there’s a prolonged drought. It should be comfortable in temperatures above 10° C (50° F), ideally matching USDA zones 9 to 11, though its exact cold tolerance is still being studied.
This agave is prized for its compact rosette shape and minimal maintenance needs. Perfect for long-term collectors, its scarcity in cultivation only adds to its allure. It grows slowly, doesn’t flower frequently, and is not invasive, unlike other agaves. Its rarity and specialized habitat requirements make it a standout addition to any succulent enthusiast's collection. The plants being offered are 1-year-old seedlings, ready to fit into your unique plant collection.
