Sesamothamnus rivae, a unique succulent, originates from the seasonally dry tropical regions of Eastern Africa, stretching from Ethiopia to northern Tanzania. Its natural habitat includes arid areas with distinct wet and dry seasons. Our current offerings are 7 years old seedlings that are accustomed to these challenging conditions.
This plant thrives best in bright, direct sunlight. Keep your Sesamothamnus rivae in a spot where it can soak up the sun. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to almost completely dry out between waterings. It prefers well-draining loamy soil and does just fine in moderate humidity. During its growth season, once-a-week watering is sufficient, while in winter, cut back to once a month. Ensure temperatures stay above 10° C (50° F) at all times.
A standout feature of Sesamothamnus rivae is its thick, water-storing trunk, which can reach up to 28 cm in diameter and grow into a shrub or small tree. Its blooms are white with a reddish throat, adding visual appeal. The sparse foliage and its ability to form a resilient caudex make it an impressive and rare addition to any succulent enthusiast's collection.
