Raphionacme lanceolata is a rare succulent native to the tropical grasslands of Tanzania and Namibia. It thrives in areas where dry seasons are common. Although many succulents are widely available, this one is special because of its limited commercial availability and distinctive growth habits.
This plant prefers a loose, well-draining soil that doesn't hold too much moisture. A near-neutral pH around 6.6 to 7.3 is ideal. It enjoys bright, indirect light, which mimics its natural habitat along the edges of savannas. Water it moderately while it's growing, and then ease off when it's dormant. Make sure the temperature stays above 10° C (50° F). In the winter, the vines may die back, but don't worry, they'll make a comeback in the spring.
Collectors love Raphionacme lanceolata for its woody, roundish caudex, which can grow up to 15 cm in diameter. Its unique vines can spread up to 50 cm long, adorned with narrow, velvety leaves. The plant also features fragrant, spherical flowers, adding a touch of charm. Its rarity and the seasonal growing cycle make it a rewarding challenge for those looking to grow something different in their collection.
