Dracaena cinnabari, known for its dragon’s blood resin, grows exclusively on Socotra Island, Yemen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This rare species thrives in rocky, high-altitude areas, a testament to its resilience and unique charm. Our offerings are 1-year-old seedlings, promising a part of this remote and mystical landscape right in your home.
This plant loves bright, direct sunlight once it gets used to it. Make sure to water thoroughly once a week during its growing season, allowing the soil to dry out completely in between. In the winter, it rests and needs less water, about once a month is sufficient. It thrives above 10°C (50°F), be aware that it will lose leaves in cold but will regrow them in spring.
Its visual appeal is undeniable with a thick, branching trunk and dense rosettes of stiff, narrow leaves at the branch tips. Even as seedlings, Dracaena cinnabari showcases early dracoid shapes, hinting at its future umbrella-shaped crown. Its crimson resin has been valued for centuries, used in dyes and medicines, adding to its historical significance. Ideal for collectors who crave a plant that’s more sculpture than shrub, this one pairs ancient beauty with ecological intrigue.
